Nicole Mitchell has been awarded one of the Best Poster Awards at the International Battery Materials conference (IBA) 2025 in Singapore.

IBA is a leading global forum dedicated to cutting-edge research in advanced battery materials and electrochemical energy-storage systems. Held in Singapore, the meeting brought together more than 300 internationally recognised experts and researchers to share state-of-the-art findings in battery chemistry, materials science and cell engineering. Through plenary lectures, invited talks and active scientific exchange, the conference highlighted emerging innovations shaping next-generation batteries and supported collaboration across academia, national laboratories and industry.
Her award-winning poster presentations showcased impactful research:
Nicole’s research shows how the larger Na⁺ ion leads to lower-voltage Mn and O redox and causes the material to become amorphous on charge. Her work clarifies how ion size controls intercalation behaviour and structural stability in next-generation rocksalt cathodes.
This recognition at such a prestigious conference underscores her significant contributions to the field of energy-storage materials.
“I am honoured to receive this award at such a prestigious conference. The meeting has been incredibly insightful, with excellent talks and discussions that provided new perspectives and the chance to engage with leading researchers in the field.” - Nicole Mitchell
